***UPDATE*** WCS Manhunt Gun Control Rant Gets Almost 3000 Page Views Still Most Moms Think This is an EXCUSE.... The Children are SAFER in School.... BUT Snow Days Were NOT Used. Education is IMPORTANT!!! Seriously- Think of ALL the Latch Key Children that Are Less Safe. Thanks WCS AFTER the Guy Was Caught They Could Have Announced School Was Starting 2 Hours Late (to let people catch up on sleep).

Hello Williamson County parents, students and staff. This is Carol Birdsong calling with an important message. Please listen to this entire message. The Williamson County Sheriff's Department has been conducting a manhunt for a Franklin man over the weekend. Officers are searching for a school district maintenance employee, Jeff Vaughn, related to an incident that allegedly occurred near his home. His picture is attached to the email I am also sending you. There is no known threat to our schools, students or staff, but in an effort to assist the Sheriff's Department in the search, Williamson County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 25 to allow the Sheriff's Department extra time to locate Jeff Vaughn. Extended care will also be closed. Again, there will be no school in Williamson County Schools tomorrow. Extended care will also be closed. We will update you on the situation tomorrow. Thank you.

NOW almost 3,000 Views from ALL over the world.

UPDATE

".....Long said Vaughn was served last week with an order of protection — commonly known as a restraining order — to stay away from his wife and children. He is alleged to have broken into his wife’s home on North Chapel Road in rural eastern Williamson County and menaced the family about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The wife, children and a sister-in-law escaped from the home and were attempting to flee in the car when Vaughn fired a shotgun at them, shattering the windshield, authorities say....."  the Tennessean
http://www.tennessean.com/article/20130225/WILLIAMSON04/302250025/Williamson-County-sticks-by-plan-close-schools-Monday-after-manhunt-ends-Sunday-night

It's my opinion that as soon as the restraining order was issued he'd be suspended from his job.  The courts should then "fast track" his case so if he's innocent he could go back to work.  Better communication is needed.

By looking at recent comments in the Tennessean my point of Mental Health evaluations seems VALID.

  1. If this man is a district employee he has keys to the schools. I think it was a great call to keep our students out of school at this time. Williamson County is striving for excellence. They do not look for excuses to keep the students out of school.

    1. You are so correct. Sadly most people do not think about the totality of the circumstances and jump to blame. Obviously there is some concern that he has access to school buildings and the possibility of searching those locations is a factor. My child will be with me tomorrow; and I'm sure other parents will work this out.

    2. The paranoia in this area is INSANE it's better to have LOTS of children be forced to stay home alone. The police have have been looking for this man. Schools can be "cleared" and then re keyed .... I'm sure LOTS have already had that happen. So WHy not have the school open that have already been swept?

    3. Sharon, the only insane person here is you.

    4. Clearing and re-keying takes time. As a parent, I have confidence that this is part of what our school district will be doing tomorrow.

    5. I'm not going to argue with you. I watched many building be cleared when I worked in politics. If people are efficient it's done quickly.
This happened Saturday night. Kendra PLEASE volunteer to help out your neighbors that have to work and take care of their children.

  2. How do you know he has keys to ALL the schools?

  3. Manhunts do not occur for minor infractions of the law. Typically, they are reserved for violent offenders. Maintenance employees typically work in multiple schools. Even if he only has keys to one school, that is an entire school of children who would potentially become bystanders or casualties to a confrontation between a violent offender and the officers attempting to apprehend him. I do worry for all of the working families, but I worry more about another Newtown.

  4. The close "that" school NOT the entire district. That is my point. if he's a big danger then what he did a few days ago would be on the news.
    It's called common sense.

    1. WCS maintenance workers very often work in multiple schools. Chances are that, as a maintenance worker, he has a master key that unlocks the doors of multiple schools, if not all of them.

  5. I would imagine it has more to do with manpower dedicated to the manhunt than keys. Just think of the extra deputies that could be used, instead of at crossings and manning schools.

  6. Larry - That makes sense what does not makes sense is how it was communicated. The fact is a loose individual is a danger to children that have nobody to care for them. Many in Williamson County are lucky that they don't have to work I will hire someone to care for my child still I know a LOT of latch key children that will fell TERRORIZED knowing a manhunt is happening. Lots of people don't think they can take time off of work because they fear losing their jobs. The people in this community live in a bubble and don't understand that children are safer at school. YES!!! if he has keys to "that" school close it BUT not the entire district. Doing that is STUPID!!!! Big picture thinking is important.

  7. Wow, there are a lot of assumptions going on here. Don't let partial information lead you to blog about things you have no idea about. You are spearheading misinformation and that's irresponsible. I have no idea why they are closing WC schools, but I will say that Williamson County thinks education is IMPORTANT and doesn't want to close schools because snow days were NOT used. I would stick to the conspiracy stuff you know about and stay away from real topics like this. Your legitimacy only takes a negative turn with nutty accusations as this.

    1. OK- I believe in the 2nd amendment BUT to prevent future school closings lets have gun control. Evidently he had a family spat - shot a gun and did not harm anyone STILL it's a valid concern. SInce guns are prevalent in Tennessee then we should ban them. do YOU agree?

FYI- I'm NOT saying I want gun control.... it's what the emotions of the viewers are telling me.

      Delete
    2. I think that gun control is not the answer. I don't have the answer, because I don't have any information to formulate an answer. I do know that my children will be with either my wife or I tomorrow, and safe. As far as latchkey kids, I believe a good parent will do anything possible to ensure their child's safety.

    3. I agree with you.... some parents have to work to put food in their stomachs. NOT all children in Williamson County are as lucky as yours. WHy don't you volunteer to help others who have to work.

    4. WCS is not a babysitter. I guess summer break, spring break and christmas break should all be cancelled. Parents have to work then too. I don't buy into your nanny state mentality, sorry.

    5. Well extended care is closed & parents planned on having their children there. Had they known YESTERDAY they would have had more time to make plans. The school should answer questions like WHY they think he shot at his wife?

  8. According to WCS website, he is on the general maintenance team, which provides services to all schools. It is better to be safe than risl the safety of any children in any school. This inconvenience is a small price to pay for my child's safety.

Jeff Vaughn is a maintenance worker with Williamson County Schools.

He is assigned to Trinity area schools but has worked at all schools and has access to schools.

There... now will you calm down? Geez.

    1. he shot at them but did NOT harm them. If he did commit murder it would have been on the news last night.

It's scary BUT this society worships guns. What did you expect?

    2. If he is willing to shoot at his own children, then why should any of us believe that he would not be willing to shoot at other children?

      Delete
    3. Have you ever thought that he shot the gun up in the air to scare them and did NOT intend on harming them. That is what Joe Biden said to do.

      Delete
    4. Do you know for a fact that is the case? If not, then it is pure conjecture. Even if that was the case... Who is to say that he wouldn't aim for a people if cornered by officers? I don't want my children in an atmosphere where an adult has keys to enter the school through any door with a gun out, even if he doesn't plan to use it.

      Delete
    5. SORRY!! I meant to type "shooting AT his wife and kids"...I certainly did not mean to make it sound worse than it is.

    6. OMG!!! the State Senators recently proposed letting Principals and teachers have guns. They would have had the same background check as the maintenance guy (most likely) I believe that ALL jobs that are around children have the same check. This proves that good people carrying guns is a bad idea.... just in case they "flip out" which is MIGHT have been what happened. This man did pass a security check to get the job.

I propose ALL Williamson County employees get re evaluated... ASAP before they re open the schools. I think that's what Kendra would do?

    7. No, Sharyn, I would not suggest that. I would thank you to refrain from speaking for me.

  12. The guy shot at his wife and daughter...I don't care if he shot in the air, at the ground or past their head! He shot at them and he's on the run now. He's a man that has keys to schools so the only logical solution is to close schools until they find him. You thrive on conspiracy and basically say anything to draw attention to your blog. Who cares if school is out for a day? This is an unusual situation and parents will accommodate for that. Get over it...when they find the guy, everything can get back to normal but until then, err on the side of caution. Paranoia? Maybe but in the midst of unfortunate crimes at schools, why risk it?

    1. Your comments about me are petty. I did not take a 1.4 Billion dollar Dept. of Energy loan knowing I was going to build a car with technology from the 90's. I was told by Catherine Perez the former VP of purchasing that NISSAN had a cash flow problem THAT is why they took the American taxpayer money. Guess you do not car they cannot pay it back. I'm sorry I'm a republican that cares how taxpayer money is spent.
If you talk about school safety I will be respectful and listen to your opinion if you want to insult me I will fight back with the FACTS!!!

Williamson County has 500,000,000 in debt. a lot of they to pay for stuff they cant afford remember STOCKTON California

School funding is being cut due to greedy companies that take and take,

      I care about children... 100%

    2. I'm aware of your history Sharon. That 10 second commercial of your achievements has nothing to do with the topic either. It's real simple, you're the only person in here who thinks WCS schools should be open even though WCSD is searching for a man that has keys to a school! Let it be known I'm not insulting you but it's obvious I'm not alone in questioning your thought process.

      Delete
    3. OK - You have a right to your opinion. I don't have to agree or disagree.
We live in America & both of us are able to think differently.

The fact is had Williamson County not had/have so much debt more money could be used for school safety. I for one want surveillance cameras in EVERY parking lot.

Don't insult me. I understand the issue. The fact is this man does NOT have a pattern of violence otherwise he would not have gotten his job.
UNTIl details are released the facts are blurry. ALL I'm saying is latch key kids are LESS safe. Luckily people like Kendra are taking care of those that are alone.

  13. 1. The thought that Williamson County Schools is using this as an "Excuse" to use a snow day is insane.
    2. Considering this man has access to the schools and the nature of the allegations, it only seems wise to be cautious until he is found.
    3. Gun control only stops good people from having a form of self defense. Bad guys will get guns regardless.

    1. The guy must have been thought of as a good guy because he got a job with the school.

      Think about that?

      Delete
    2. What does that have to do with anything? Obviously he was hired prior to this event.

      Delete
    3. Still he must have had "mental" issues. Most people don't shoot at their wives.

That means they should change how they do background checks. YOU said "3. Gun control only stops good people from having a form of self defense. Bad guys will get guns regardless." so I responded.

FYI- I'm a believer in the 2nd amendment. Still I want background checks. Did this guy have a semi automatic?
If he did then ALL parents should support Senator Feinstein's bill.

      It's important for our children.

      Delete
    4. Background checks do not identify every person with violent tendencies. They only identify those with criminal records. A lot of violent people go years without a record that would get them flagged.

      Delete
    5. Mental health screenings do. I agree with you that many are not flagged that is why I want NO GUNS in schools.
Why risk having a teacher with a gun who had a "flip out"... Please tell me you agree with me?

      Delete
  14. So that is the argument for no guns in school? That a teacher might flip out? So we then leave everyone without self defense. Yeah, real smart. We should take guns away from police too, right!?? After all, they flip out. Really we should only let the bad guys have the guns, right? Geez.

    ReplyDelete
  15. All i'm saying is NO weapons EXCEPT trained police professionals. I'm not an alfalfa type that wants extreme legislation. All i want is better background checks. I do NOT want teachers to have a weapon.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Okay Sharyn, I don't know you but can tell by this thread that although you seem to have genuine passion (or just a genuine need to argue perhaps), you hastily respond to everyone with malformed views and liberal talking points on gun control. I truly hope you gain broader perspective and realize that WE THE PEOPLE are not little children that need more and more government control. The 2nd amendment was created as an insurance policy for this very reason. The "gun free zone" is really a stupid idea because those who "flip out" as you put it, WON"T OBEY THOSE SIGNS. Get real. Good night.

    1. Good Night!!!

You know I agree with you 80% it's too bad you can't accept my opinion. All I said is teachers should NOT have weapons & better background checks. Too may p narrow minded people like to you insult me for using my 1st amendment. I can't wait to move OUT of Tennessee.
Stupid people with weapons is a recipe for disaster. Good Night to you too.

    2. OMG...all you said in here was teachers should not have guns? That's hardly ALL you said in here. But there is good news here...you can't wait to move OUT of TN. What's stopping you from moving now? Let me know when you're moving and I'll help you pack. By the way, what land of milk and honey are you planning on moving to? I'm sure TN is the only state where controversy will find you.

      Delete

  17. I'm planing on moving to a state that's Blue or Purple. One that respects ALL people.
At NISSAN women in management went from 20.9% in 2006 to 10% in 2009 and I want my child to live in a state that promotes women.
The fact is Tennessee has LOTS of debt & if you ask your elected officials they'll "stutter" too many gorgeous libraries, indoor sports centers, public building built with BOND money. That money has to be repaid and ALREADY the debt service is eating into the funds that MR. Looney has access to.
Ask Mr. Looney. FYI- I like him and think he's doing the best job he can under the circumstances.

Your comment about controversy "finding me" is 180 degrees off. I was simply doing my job helping people relocated to Tennessee when I learned of massive fraud, corruption and discrimination. Because I had access to a NISSAN board member I spoke up. People in this community have terrorized me, I had death threats, NISSAN's circled my child'd home, I was followed by a Titan truck (too closely) with my child in the car. In Tennessee they do't require front plates and I learned that the harassment I received happens to others that don't cave to the Good Ole Boy culture.

Tyler YOU don't understand me and don't want too. Please don't waste your time judging me.

  18. One more thing Tyler -

No need to help me pack. A person that worked with the NISSAN Leaf technology has offered to help me. They know I told the truth about the bad technology and they know the car is way too expensive to build for the mass market. People know that Tennessee can taken for a "ride" in reference to a LOT of the green projects that the Bredesen administration brought in.

OMG! if people can't respect a woman for speaking out to protect the taxpayers then "that" shows this society is what I was told by a man who served in the Gulf War under Schwarzkopf, he said it would take 2 generations to clean up the government due to the cronyism that goes back generations. He said for your daughter to succeed in life MOVE!!! Since i encouraged people to move to Tennessee when I did relocation I must apologize to my clients that had daughters. Back then I did not know how intrenched/powerful the Good Ole Boy culture is.

    Have a Great Day!

    Respectfully,

    Sharyn Bovat
